The Nike Cortez was created by Bill Bowerman and Phil Knight. As a track and field coach at the University of Oregon, Bill believed that athletes deserved better track shoes than what was available. The cortez was built for the 1968 Mexico Olympics, but the finalized design was released in 1972. The Sneaker has become one of Nike's most famous models, which is partly due to one of the iconic scenes of Forrest Gump. In 2022, brands such as UNION LA or SACAI used the silhouette as the basis of their collaborations.
